Why do street lamps have individual transformers within them?

I learned something about the structure of street lamps. Why does every street light have a transformer?

Street lights are generally powered by AC power, and the voltage of AC power is generally high, around 110V-380V. But street lights actually only need to use lower DC voltages to function properly. Also, if it is an LED lamp, the transformer inside the lamp converts the alternating current into direct current.
