Why does LED street light illuminate smaller areas?

The old orange street lights near my house have been replaced with LED ones recently. But I found that the LED street lights illuminate smaller areas. Shouldn’t they illuminate a bigger area than the old ones?

The light LED street lights emit is designed to only illuminate the needed area. Old HPS street lights emit diffuse light, so the light will go out in all directions. This is actually a waste of energy. To make better use of the energy, there is a light distribution design in LED street lights, making them cast a rectangular shape on the roads. You will find that in this area of the road, the light is stronger than before.
