Why do we use Sodium for street lighting ?

HPS street lights are widely used around the city, and I wonder why we choose the orange light and sodium as the light source.
  • Sodium is an element with strong excitation ability and can produce strong yellow light when excited.
  • Sodium has a very high thermal conductivity. It can effectively transfer this heat to avoid overheating the lamp and extend its service life.
  • Sodium has good chemical stability and is not easily affected by oxidation, which can ensure the lifespan of lamps.
  • The price of sodium is relatively low, which can reduce the manufacturing cost of high-pressure sodium lamps.
