What Is the Best Light Intensity for My Plants?

How much light intensity does the plant need? What is the best light intensity?

Different plants vary in their needs for light intensity. These requirements also change depending on the stage of growth.

  • Low light intensity plants: They prefer 50 to 250 foot-candles per square foot.
  • Medium light intensity plants: They typically require 250 to 1,000 foot-candles per square foot. It’s better to provide more than 750 foot-candles for best growth unless the plants also get a lot of direct sunlight. Give them 15 or more watts per square foot of growing area.
  • High light intensity plants: They usuary need at least 1000 foot-candles. Give them 20 watts per square foot of growing area for optimal growth.
