Why are there so few street lights in the countryside?

I live in the countryside, and at night there is little street lighting, making it quite inconvenient. When I get into the city, there are more street lights. Why don’t they set more street lights in the countryside?
  • Electricity: The countryside is far away from the city, so the installation of the grid is difficult and expensive.
  • Fewer needs: Compared to the urban highways with heavy traffic, there are fewer residents and vehicles. So there will be fewer street lights.
  • Maintenance: Maintenance of the street lights in the countryside is also hard. There are few operators, and the costs are expensive.
