How to Choose All in One Solar Street Lights

Everyone knows about solar street lights, but do you know all in one solar street lights? Solar street lights are promoted for saving energy and lighting up areas where power is not available. All-in-one solar street lights can be seen as an updated version of solar lights. In terms of structure and performance, they are better than solar street lights and traditional street lights. Read this passage to get to know this amazing invention and how to choose one to help with your project!

What is all in one solar street light?

all in one solar street light

The all in one solar street lights consist of a highly efficient solar panel, a lithium battery that has a lifespan as long as three to six years, LED lights with high light efficiency, a smart MPPT controller, and a sensor.

Compared with common solar lights, it is easier to install all in one solar street lights because of their simple structure. All the components are combined together, resulting in a lighter weight and smaller size than the common ones. This structure is suitable for transportation and maintenance. As for the battery, although both street lights use lithium batteries, the one of all in one has a higher conversion efficiency. Besides, the conversion efficiency of the all in one solar street light’s solar panel is also higher, which means it can convert the energy faster. Usually, solar street lights have the functions of light sensing and setting schedules. They can not only automatically turn on when it gets dark but also at the time set by operators. All in one solar street lights can be more functional with a motion sensor to turn on or off.

How do all in one solar street lights work?

How do all in one solar street lights work

Like solar lights, at daytime, they will make use of the sunlight to charge LED lights and work automatically when the night draws in. The energy from the sunlight is transformed into electricity and stored in the battery. The sensor can detect the motions of passersby and make the LED light up when needed. If no one is near the light, it will reduce the brightness to 1/3 of the original one to save energy.

The all in one street solar lights are easy to install since all you need to do is fix the base. Sometimes the whole process will only take 5 minutes. It doesn’t need cables and can guarantee a high level of safety. Moreover, its compact structure can help a lot with its waterproofing performance. All in one solar street lights have high quality. Its case is made of an alloy material that can resist corrosion, and other components are also well crafted. Therefore, all in one solar street lights can have a service life of more than five years.

How to Choose All in One Solar Street Lights

Solar panel

solar panel

There are two main types of solar panels on the market: Monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels. Polycrystalline solar panels have patterns on them, while monocrystalline ones don’t. Monocrystalline solar panels have a high conversion rate of 16% to 17%, which is higher than the conversion rate of 12% to 16% of polycrystalline. Although monocrystalline solar patterns have a higher conversion rate, they are more expensive. So you can choose monocrystalline or polycrystalline, considering the price and conversion rate.

The nickel wire is another feature of the solar panels and is related to the conversion speed. These wires function to carry the energy to or from the solar light. So the more wires a solar panel has, the faster the conversion speed will be.

Battery

lithium battery

There are many types of solar street lamp batteries, and the common ones on the market are lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries, gel batteries, lithium iron phosphate, etc.

Lead-acid batteries have a stable voltage and a low price, but they are too heavy, have a short lifespan, and are hard to maintain.

Gel batteries can be used in environments with a temperature range from minus 40 degrees to minus 65 degrees. What’s more, their service life is twice as long as ordinary batteries, but the price is slightly higher.

Lithium batteries are small in size, can be charged quickly, and are recyclable, but sometimes they are not very stable. Besides, the range of its operating temperatures is not as large as that of lead-acid batteries. And the price is high.

A lithium iron phosphate battery is also expensive, but its service life can be as long as 10 years. It is recyclable, and it has a wide range of operating temperatures.

In addition to considering the basic parameters, You should also consider the installation environment when choosing a battery for the solar street light.

Controller

controller

Most of the controllers nowadays are PWM controllers. But with the development of solar street light technology, a new type of controller was invented: MPPT controllers.

PWM controllers use the digital output of the microprocessor to control the analog circuit. They can realize three different ways of charging. When the voltage of the battery is relatively low, it will charge the battery with high current and voltage. When this high level of charging is finished, it will charge the battery at a uniform speed. Then it will make sure the battery is fully charged and won’t be overcharged.

It may sound smart, but actually, it cannot achieve the highest charging efficiency. Besides, PWM controllers are easily influenced by weather. Only when the temperature is between 45 and 75 degrees can the efficiency be the highest.

On the contrary, MPPT controllers outperform PWM controllers because they can realize the highest charging efficiency. The MPPT solar controller refers to a solar controller with the function of “Maximum Power Point Tracking”. MPPT solar controllers can detect the voltage and current of the solar panel in real time and continuously track the maximum power (P=U*I) so that the system always charges the battery with the maximum power. The MPPT tracking efficiency is 99%, and the power efficiency of the whole system can be as high as 97%. But the price of MPPT controllers is higher than that of PWM controllers.

Conclusions

Besides considering these three main parts of all in one solar lights, you can also think about other components and choose those of high quality. For example, cases that can resist corrosion, solid brackets that can withstand strong winds, and LED lights of the highest efficiency.
