As a tropical succulent, the dragon fruit should only be irrigated when the soil is almost completely dry. One guaranteed method to destroy a cactus is to overwater it! A yardstick or your finger can be inserted about three inches into the ground to measure the moisture content of the soil. Wait before watering if you find any water at all.
