How to care for Strawberries in winter?

Winter is coming. What measures should I take to protect them?

Strawberry plants are perennial. Being inherently tolerant of cold, they can withstand temperatures that are close to freezing. It doesnt need much care if your area experiences moderate winters.

Strawberries will be dormant in areas where the temperature consistently falls into the low twenties (Fahrenheit). Il’s best to offer some protection from the cold:

  • Plants should be mulched with straw, pine needles, or other organic material about 4 inches deep.
  • More insulating mulch should be applied in colder areas.
  • Sufficient soil moisture should be suitably maintained by natural precipitation.
  • Once the chance of frost has passed, remove the mulch in the early spring.
