All plants require at least some light to survive through photosynthesis. It is the mechanism by which a plant uses chemical energy to fuel its organism by converting light.

The genus Orobanche is the only exception. These plants are parasitic on other plants’ roots, drawing their energy from them and growing without sunlight. The parasites are indirectly dependent on light, hoewel, because their host plants still require sunlight to survive.
